I’ve been asked to make a Christian themed block for a friend and this is what I’ve come up with. It will have an alpha on one side and an omega on the other.
The star represents the birth of Jesus and the cross his death. He said that he was the alpha and the omega and this represents his personal alpha and omega. I’ve made a start. Here’s what I’ve done so far.

I’ve been continuing to agonise over borders. Here are some of my attempts to resolve the problem. Mr Tiggy was quite decisive in his choice.

Can you guess from these photos?
What do you think?
Do you have any preferences?
I plan to lay them out and then take photos so I’ll show you when I’ve done that.
In the meantime, I went to Craft Depot yesterday and bought this fabric (for $7.95 per metre!) which just begged to be the backing for this quilt. Do you agree?

Well I’ve started quilting the Lily Wall Hanging. I’m doing ripples and I’m using my Sulky Blendables. I wish had some more and different colours but at the moment I’m contenting myself with two. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue the ripples all the way up or have breaks or change the interval between the ripples or what. It’s a make it up as you go along kind of thing.
Do you want to see some of what I’ve done so far?

Yesterday I sandwiched (if you can call it that when there’s only a top and some batting) the Lily Wall Hanging. I used these lovely, small safety pins. I bought them when Sylvia and Louise and I were travelling to Gettysburg. We stopped at a huge warehouse of a place that seemed to sell everything known to man. These small safety pins were sold a quilt basting pins. I really like them. Because they are smaller than the usual pins they are sharper and don’t damage the quilt top fabric. This is the second time I’ve used them and if I ever see them again I’ll get some more because they’re great.
I’ve had a bit of trouble deciding what colour to quilt with. This picture shows my available options.
I have opted to use two of the Sulky Blendables but this time with small stitches. I’m also using Thread Heaven thread conditioner and it is wonderful. I’ve never used it before but it really makes quilting easy.
The threads I’m using are the one on the right and the fourth from the right. I hope to have something to show you soon.

I’ve now inset the circle block into the square frame. I thought it might be difficult but it wasn’t and I really enjoyed it. (The photo doesn’t really show it but the frame isn’t the same fabric as the other purple one which actually has spots on it.)
The thing is, what now? I made this block mostly from bits of left over fabric. It’s too nice to discard but I’m not sure what to do with it. Make a small quilt and sell it? Make a cushion cover and sell it? Either way I’ll have to put a border around it and hand quilt it.
I’d like to raise some money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation but I have’t quite got my head around the way they work yet. They have some strange way of giving you a fund-raising page hosted by some “Hero” company. When, and if, I work it out I might make a few small quilts and offer them for sale for this cause. What do you think?

It’s such a hard life for a cat, isn’t it? Lying about looking cute, sleeping and looking cute and only speaking when you want to eat.
