Mahboba’s Promise – sewing machine for a widow

September 30, 2010 § Leave a comment

I’ve told you of a few fund raising efforts recently that are all for good causes and all somehow related to sewing.

The first one was the Action Kivu Sewing Workshop Fundraiser which was held by Alissa over at Handmade by Alissa and then there was IBOL which was run by Art La Flamme.

There is another sewing related charity I’ve found called Mahboba’s Promise. They provide sewing machines to Afghani widows so they can provide for themselves and their children.

Unfortunately I can’t collect money for them and they don’t accept Paypal at the moment, but if you have a sewing group that could raise Aus$15o then you could donate it here and that would buy one machine and help one widow and her children.

If you do donate please email them at – – and say you came from Sewjournal Blog and I’ll email them to ask them to keep tabs of the donations so I can keep you up-to-date with how much we’ve raised.

If, in the future, they get Paypal and can take small donations then I’ll try to set up something so we can pool our donations.
